OK, frustrating, does not suit Kindle

While this book certainly has some useful nuggets in it, the authors approach did not work very well for me. Others may like this, but for me there was too much situation-building narrative surrounding the useful Japanese. "About my job" might be enough, it does not need a load of suggestions on where I might be sitting when I might want to discuss my job.
In addition, there were too many unexplained Kanjis without Hiragana alternatives, and it dives right into Hiragana and Katakana without explanation or a pronunciation table. Add to this the large number of very small embedded images of grammar tables which you have to individually click to read on a Kindle app, and the entire text became rather frustrating to use.

Very good, just some minor drawbacks...

The only drawback is you have to go to the publisher's website to download the audio portion when you have the digital book and not the physical book that comes with a CD for your computer. And the download only downloads in the correct format if you are NOT using a mobile device while downloading it.

Covers basic knowledge but not much more

This was a fine place to start if you know absolutely nothing. It covers the most basic elements of the language: hiragana, katakana, a few particles and a handful of important phrases. It was a good place to start but if you're committed, you could probably find this information in the beginning of a more in-depth book.
