Life of Grime

"Talk of the Town" was an electrifying read. Tonya's style of writing is candid, realistic and hardcore.

Mya: hands down, is the most cold-hearted, twisted chick in Urban Literature. In one sentence, she spoke about slaughtering her enemies, in the next, settling down and starting a family.

Diamond: as much as she wants to, just can't seem to walk away from a life of crime. When she finally finds true happiness, she realizes things are not what they appear to be. She's becomes a pawn to an affluent, drug lord and stumbles deeper into the game.

Scottie: I knew dude was too good to be true. I thought he was one of the "good" guys. Boy was I wrong. One minute, you felt that Scottie was going to be "played" like a lottery ticket but it is HE who ends up a winner: Mr. Untouchable.

If you're looking for excitement from beginning to end, "Talk of the Town" will certainly deliver the goods.

I'm grateful to Tonya for discouraging me from relocating to the ATL. I'll remain right here in the boogie down Bronx. LOL

This talk WILL Leave you speechless!!

"Talk of The Town" by Tonya Ridley was a great read. There is a ton of violence in this story, but I enjoyed it anyways.
Mya and Diamond are two best friends from the hood in the ATL, Mya's dream is to get rich by shedding the blood of hustlers. Mya wants her name ringing in the ears of the hood, by robbing, killing and selling drugs.
Diamond wants to go legit and dreams of opening her own hair salon. Diamond is only setting dudes up to earn some extra cash, but that life is truly not for her.
Everything changes when Diamond falls in love with Scottie, who is a rich White/Cuban dude that is making millions. Scottie is supposed to be the next "vic" and Mya is enraged when she learns that Diamond has went against the grain. The events that follow set Atlanta on fire!!!!

I bought this book directly from the author at Women's Empowerment in 2008. There was something about the cover that just caught my attention.

The only downside of this book is that it's not long enough. I just didn't want to stop reading. I loved this book. It's funny because I had thirty pages to go and me and my then boyfriend went out to eat at Chili's and I couldn't put the book down. I mean I was literally reading it at the table instead of talking to him. I knew it was rude but I could not help it. The book was that good.

He was mad at first. But once I let him read it, he understood my obsession. And once you read it, you will too.

About the Author
Baird T. Spalding, whose name became legend in metaphysical circles during the first half of the 20th century, played an important part in introducing to the Western world knowledge of the Masters, who are assisting and guiding the destiny of mankind. Born in England, at age four he went to India. At age seventeen he finished the University and went to California where he stayed two years. He then traveled to Heidelberg, Germany and studied for eight years and then returned to California for post-graduate work in Archaeology at Berkeley and Stanford.
`After years of working with publisher Douglas DeVorss to write and promote the Life & Teaching series, Spalding died in 1953 in Arizona.

The Halliwells are on holiday in Arthurian legend territory and it is not long before Piper stumbles across a Druid ritual with Niall - tall, broad-shouldered, with soulful dark eyes - at its centre. Niall amazes the sisters by telling them that the Druids have brought him into the twenty-first century in order to re-create an ancient ceremony and produce a child with phenomenal powers who would be totally in their control. Niall is desperate to get back to his own time and the sisters promise to help, but they are going to have to call on all their strength to outwit the Druids.

Not the best

Charmed? Not this book.

The Legacy Of Merlin is a story that is well-written in the usual manner a typical Charmed book is written in, but flawed, plot-wise:

Book's flaws: The plot was rickety-thin and not very informative on what the story's main focus is about.

Secondly, it is mentioned that the sisters have to go back in time, to help their "innocent", who happens to be Niall, the mysterious stranger, which only happens to be for a very short while and only 2 of the sisters do go back in time.

Thirdly (and the most major incomprehension), I don't understand how could Diana and the Driuds to be so possibly powerful that they can summon Niall 1500 years in the past, to the future, just like that. And what Diana wants is to be very powerful???? When she herself doesn't not have much power?!?!?! The fact that she and her group of hypnotized human-sheep could summon someone who is practically an unknown legend in the past, to their own time, is downright hard to believe that all she wants is more power (a baby), with that "unknown legend". Not only does it not make any sense at all, (even in the Charmed universe), the idea of it is far-fetched.

And the ending was predictable AND too, unbelievably simple, which ruined the intrigue of the whole book. Also, at the end, some parts of the story were kind of messed up, going off the main storyline, and might make the reader think at the end, "That's it?!"

Oh yes, there is no major battle, which is rather disappointing as these kind of typical intrigues in a Charmed book makes it worth reading. The Legacy Of Merlin is not.

But despite these major faults that is in this story, I still enjoyed it. If you like Charmed, but don't be surprised if your find yourself getting annoyed with the confusion and blunders in this book.

I Love Charmed, I loved the book Legacy Of Merlin. In the book, Prue and her sisters go to England because Prue is buying books for a collector. So they think it's going to be relaxing, but they're wrong when phoebe meets a guy in a magic bookstore named Niall and has a premanition of a baby. She doesn't know if it's hers so Phoebe and Niall go out on a couple of dates. Meanwhile, Piper is Making love charms that she saw in a book and accidently uses one on this guy Sir Andrew.

So the next day Piper see's Niall and this other woman doing some kind of ritual. So she goes and warns her sisters. Prue Made friennds with an older woman Mrs. Jefferies while she buys fruit from her stand. Piper warns them and Phoebe doesn't believe her. So thats when we find out that Niall is from 1400 years ago. He is the son of Merlin. And that woman is his friends Diana.

The next morning prue goes to get some fruit but Mrs. Jefferies isn't there. Her and Piper go into her house but doesn't find her. So they go to Diana's and She hurts Niall and Phoebe. The Deal Is if Niall doesn't make a baby with Diana by Midnight he will die. So Prue And Piper go back to Nialls time to get a spell Off Merlin. He gives it them and they go back to present time. But Niall wants to go back so hoebe says goodbye to hime and the sisters go back Home.

An excellent introduction to spoken and written French

As I write this, I'm a little over halfway through this program, and I am very pleased with it. The four CDs for use with the book are very clear and useful in helping to pronounce French correctly. The book is an excellent text-all points of grammar are explained clearly and plenty of examples are given to illustrate how to use the language correctly. The dialogues are easy to learn and very practical-they contain things that the average person would actually talk about when visiting a French-speaking area; topics such as food, shopping, buying train tickets, sightseeing, and so forth. The book also contains an excellent and useful appendix, which recaps points of grammar and has a section on letter writing.

So why four stars instead of five? My main criticism concerns the "Learn as you Go" CDs. I do not find these terribly helpful. They contain extra phrases like "The chair is made of mahogany" that the average user is extremely unlikely to need, and that with no transcription whatever, so it's hard to say if you've repeated it correctly or not. I think the "Learn on the Go" CDs could have been put to much better use recording the many grammatical examples in the text. In their defense, they do go over the pronunciation of new verb conjugations as they are introduced, and that IS very helpful. The space on these four CDs could, however, in general have been much better used.

The book does have a few minor flaws. For instance, in one early dialogue the year 1960 is said, at a point when only the numbers up to 19 have been taught (and in French, 1960 is said as one thousand nine hundred sixty). There are a few other things that would confuse a complete newcomer to French, though if you've had any exposure to French before the book won't give you any trouble. Even if you are completely new to French, I would still recommend this product. If you make it through the first few units it will go very easily afterward if you stick with it. Also, though the course is self-contained, I would strongly recommend getting a dictionary and a verb guide to go with it. Then you will have all the tools you need to learn basic French independently.

This course's few flaws are far outweighed by its many good points. It is enjoyable to use and very informative. It demands effort, of course-like everything worth doing. I believe this is the best self-teaching course for French available, and I look forward to moving on to the Advanced set soon.

For serious learner

If you are a serious learner, this course is for you. I have used also Pimsleur and Fluenz. They are suitable for a tourist, but they won't really teach you the language. What is good about this course is that it covers grammar, pronunciation and vocabulary. Each lesson has plenty of excercises. I did also love the cultural note in each lesson. You should expect to spend a considerable amount of time on the course to get the most benefit. Accompanied Cds are very helpful tool especially the "Learn on the Go" Cds. Enjoy your learning.

About the Author
Dr. Terry Wardle is Professor of Spiritual Formation at Ashland Theological Seminary, Ashland, Ohio. He is the author of Wounded: How to Find Wholeness and Inner Healing through Him; Draw Close to the Fire: Finding God in the Darkness; Whispers of Love in Seasons of Fear; and The Soul's Journey into God's Embrace. He holds frequent seminars on inner healing prayer for therapists, counselors, pastors and other caregivers. He and his wife Cheryl are the parents of a son and three daughters.

About the Author
Pamela Hays holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Hawaii, a B.A. in psychology from New Mexico State University, and a certificate in French from La Sorbonne in Paris, France. From 1987 through 1988, she served as an NIMH postdoctoral fellow at the University of Rochester School of Medicine. From 1989 through 2000, she worked as core faculty member of the graduate psychology program at Antioch University in Seattle. In 2000, she returned to her home town on the Kenai Peninsula (Alaska) where she has since worked in community mental health, private practice, and with the Kenaitze Tribe's Nakenu Family Center. Her research has included work with Tunisian women in North Africa, and Vietnamese, Lao, and Cambodian people in the U.S. Pam lives in Kasilof, Alaska, which has a population of 500 people and several thousand moose. She provides consultation and teaches workshops internationally.

About the Author
Author Judy Franks is on the faculty of Northwestern University where she teaches media studies and consumer insight in both the Undergraduate and Graduate programs in Integrated Marketing Communications at the Medill School. Judy joined the Northwestern University faculty in 2008 following a 23-year career in Chicago’s leading Advertising and Media Services Agencies where she rose to the executive ranks across both the media and creative strategy disciplines. Clarifying Media from a great story teller

As an educator, it is challenging to take complex concepts and make them come alive to the reader. Judy Franks has this talent. In her book, she is able to tell us - the reader - about the past and future of media and its impact on our lives and the organizations we use in our business and personal lives. It is a fun read where you learn something important in every chapter. I highly recommend this book to better understand media and its impact n our lives. The media change is here...now we must embrace and use it in our business and personal lives.

Accessible. Insightful. Clarifying.

Full disclosure: I am a big fan Judy's book and work, so I am a _bit_ biased. While I think the "Accessible. Insightful. Clarifying." I put in the subject is a good summary of what she tees up in this book, ultimately, the big takeaway/benefit from this book: reassuring.
In the brand/marketing world in which I work, there is a cacophony of voices screaming how everything is broken. I don't think it's necessarily broken, but there certainly are a lot of questions out there. I think that the ideas in Judy's book provide a high level view that helps put everything in context, in a very holistic way, yet these same ideas are well grounded in logic, history and common sense. I found it to be quite valuable. So much so that it became required reading on the course syllabus for the brand-related class I teach.

Making Sense of Change

There have been more changes in the media landscape over the past 10 years than in the previous 100. No wonder that confusion reigns among marketers! Judy's book provides a framework for thinking about media and taking advantage of new opportunities while reminding us of certain truth's that haven't changed (Content is King). A great read for marketers of all types.
