"I haven't had much of a dating life but I still found myself laughing and agreeing with the author at almost every page. No matter your age or your dating history, you will have met at least one or two, if not all, of the 'Wrong Men' in the book. Dating the Wrong Men is my guide to love and romance told though all of my 20 plus years of dating disasters prior to finding my husband. A main factor that made me want to write this book was that all through those years, book after book would burst into pop-culture telling woman how to act, think, dress, (enter ridiculous claim here) in order to "keep my man" or "keep my man from cheating." I knew in my heart that I always treated my partners with respect and loyalty, but according to the 'new word on the street' I felt I had to make changes since my love-life wasn't working out. Constantly jumping from these trends became exhausting and no matter whose help I followed, one thing was constant... men were still cheating, lying, flirting, and yes even abusive. Where were the books telling that the men's bad behavior needed to be the thing to change?
Enter Dating the Wrong Men. In each chapter, I highlight a 'Wrong Man' personality type complete with my own experiences, what I learned going through it, a "How to tell you're dating a ___" and final thoughts on the topic. Truth be told, my husband chimed in on many tips and tricks for identifying "Wrong Men" so you're getting the male perspective as well. The story will bring you through my life, the changes in my thought processes, faith, professional life and humor. Hopefully, after reading the book you'll understand it might really not be you.

Promising, but does not come through

If you are looking at purchasing this book, you have likely found much struggle, pain, and heartache throughout your dating life. You may have experienced many wrong men--or just one particularly hurtful one--and are tired of searching aimlessly and fruitlessly for the right guy. Further, you may be hoping to find out why you date the wrong men, how to recognize a “wrong man", and how to finally find Mr. Right.
This book seems to identify with that struggle and provide hope for a solution. However, this is not what is offered in this book, in my opinion. The format of this book is that each chapter tells the author’s personal story of her encounter with a specific type of “wrong man” (cheater, gigalo, etc.). Each of these chapters ends with a bullet point summary on how to recognize that chapter’s “wrong man”.
MY REVIEW:
I will state up front that the first chapter is the exception to this review as it offered pages of wonderful information on how to recognize and abusive relationship followed by resources for victims of abuse.
However, this book was thin and unfulfilling for me as a reader. Rather than being written in a way that provided insight, substance, and direction to the reader on each of these issues, it seemed as though the short stories were the author’s way of venting to the world. The stories lacked applicable detail and, most importantly, provided no actual resources for the reader to utilize mentally or emotionally to overcome their attraction to these types of men. Sure, the bullet points summarize what to look for (and also sound great in theory), but these points were neither helpful nor well-written nor did they include any sort of useful follow-up on how to address an encounter with one of these types.
Another thing that bothered me was that the spelling and grammar were terrible throughout the book. This may not bother some people, but when I invest in a book that is professionally published, it bothers me to see major typos, such as "where" instead of "wear".
In sum, this book seemed to have been written for the author rather than for the reader which left me rather frustrated and bored very quickly.
Overall, I would not recommend this book.

Ups and Downs

I liked this book for the scope. The author clearly has a lot of experiences that can relate to a lot of people, and it is really nice because it is almost like having a person sitting in front of you to commiserate with. The bulleted lists at the end of each chapter are (mostly) surprisingly accurate; however they don't always fit with the story of the chapter and instead of seeming like an overview of the "type of man" in her story it seems like an entirely separate stand-alone section. Personally, it made me wonder how she could give these bullet points from experience if they didn't match the experience she had. Was there another person who did fit those bullet points, and if so, why didn't she tell that story instead? This lost the book a star for credibility with me.
The other issue I had with the book was the obvious complete lack of proofreading and sometimes a blatant misunderstanding of how to spell simple words. While the writing style/voice itself was mature, I found it highly distracting to come across anywhere between one and five spelling and/or sentence structure errors on every page. (And these are small pages, I read the book on my smartphone!) For someone whose claim is to be a website designer who took business/marketing classes, there is a disappointing lack of knowledge of how to write and the use/spelling of words.

I devoured the book in one sitting!

I devoured the book in one sitting! Most self-help books end up being preachy and anonymous, as if the writer has never personally experienced the troubles they mean to address, but have lots of ideas about how YOU should live life. This books is totally different: Ms. Rossi owns her own life, makes herself vulnerable to the reader, and all of that adds tremendous credibility to her guidance.
Plus, it's laugh-out-loud funny at times! Just the balm for those times when you're dealing with men troubles of your own.
